Traffic jam in Jakarta
Traffic jam is the word which cannot separated with Jakarta.
Every one complains about it but unfortunately the local government cannot
solve this problem for many years. Many
program already presented to decrease the traffic but every program always has
own trouble. For example Transjakarta bus, monorail, etc.
That situation curious me to write this article to give my
idea how to solve the horrible traffic in Jakarta
1. Make a number of
business centers out of Jakarta
The critical factor which made Jakarta become
very hectic city is everything centered in Jakarta, every year many people
going to Jakarta looking for a job. They think in Jakarta is nice place to
work, easy to earn money and they have mindset ‘if you want to success you have
to go to Jakarta”.
That argument is not wrong because the
central government is not care to develop other business centers out of
Jakarta. Actually the government already try to make Batam as an alternative
business district beside Jakarta, but that solution is not enough to reduce
urbanization flow to Jakarta. Less support from central government and less socialization
to people made this program unsuccessful.
I think the central government have to make many business center beside
batam as an alternative for people who looking for the place to work.
Implementation of cross- subsidy maybe can
be use as an alternative way to encourage the people move to other cities
beside Jakarta. The implementation of cross-subsidy which I mean is central
government give more allocation of subsidy to other business district for
increase the economic growth in that location, for example: Oil in that cities
is cheaper than in Jakarta, the price of daily needs is cheaper than in Jakarta,
electricity in that cities is cheaper
than in Jakarta so many people choose to move in there than in Jakarta.

Build variety of mass transportations
Transjakarta is the pioneer of public
transportation in Jakarta. Since it operated in 2004 Transjakarta cannot reduce
traffic jam yet because of many factors. After 10 years passed, now local
government is still trying to add the buses so people can enjoy using
Transjakarta. I don’t know why the local government feels like so hard for buy
many buses whereas 10 years were passed and traffic jam already so severe and
complicated. The government cannot just wait if any investor come and build
this project, they have to act now, build many mass transportation now whatever
that ways or Jakarta will be paralyzed city. In Oct 2013 Local governor Joko
Widodo did the ground breaking for MRT and Monorail project. MRT is built by
the central government and Monorail is built by private company (PT JM). In its
development the construction of Monorail project is stopped because there are
many problems happened in PT JM (as usual). The integrated mass transportation
system is surely needed for mega city like Jakarta. I always imagine how the people enjoy use
public transportation, moving to another place easily without have to walk so
far without have to wait so long and with proper cost.
3.
Planting many corps in the city
Indonesia exist
in tropical climate and have temperature hotter than most of country in the
world. Moist air in Jakarta makes people easily to sweat when they do an
activity. This situation makes people prefer using private car than public
transportation even though they have to stuck in traffic. I argue that we must
change our behavior to use public transportation or using bike for work. With
many plants growth in Jakarta I hope they can reduce the warm and moist
temperature so people enjoy using bike without a sweat.
4. Stop
existing of low cost car right now
When Jakarta has a
big trouble about traffic jam, the central government giving a permit for car
industry to produce “low cost green car” instead. I don’t know what is in their mind, seems
like they are all just do a joke about reducing traffic jam in Jakarta.
